Gary Wilson

Gary is a Whitianga wood carver trained at Te Awhina marae, Motueka. Gary spent 2½ years "immersion" carving on the marae and on a large waka (canoe) which sailed from Picton to Wellington in 1991.

Gary has won awards in the New Zealand woodskills competition including a first prize for the taurapa (stern post of a waka) currently on sale at The Bone Studio. He works mainly with kauri and totara and has retrieved old logs found in the Coromandel bush.
